Another great thing my kids are enjoying is Scratch
What is Scratch? According to the website:
Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art — and share your creations on the web.
Scratch is designed to help young people (ages 8 and up) develop 21st century learning skills. As they create and share Scratch projects, young people learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
It was created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and it is a great little program that my kids love. My youngest son has especially taken to this and has learned how to create games all by himself. It is amazing how much he can do. He thinks of the game he wants, illustrates it, and programs it. The three of them also work on developing games together and are learning how to work effectively as a team. If you have a child who is interested in games and computers check out this resource. It is free, and it is educational!
