I had a chance to read more about this math curriculum, and I have decided there is a great deal I like about it. The stories are great, as are the materials. One thing I especially love is the minicomputer. I decided to make the kids some computers and checkers to see what they thought. The mini computers were very easy to make with construction paper and my laminator. If you would rather just print them out you can get a copy of them here.
Here is what I did:
I also laminated a green sheet of paper and cut checkers out of it. Autry wasn’t too interested, but the boys loved them. I introduced the idea behind the computers, and we practiced using them. Then they immediately turned them into a game, and they have been playing with them for over an hour.
These were definitely a hit, and I cannot wait to implement more ideas from CSMP.
